Fediverse, tell me about Open Source options for a CRM system for small/medium non-profit enterprises.
I'm considering pitching another project for a sovereign/local tech stack review for non-tech small enterprises. Seems really hard to pry them out of cloud-hosted enterprise software.
I'd love to find a way to be a fractional Technical Services&Implementations analyst for 3-4 small orgs, rather than sell my soul for a corporate paycheque forcing 100's of clients onto one commercial system.
@johannab there are quite some forks of sugar CRM, that are still FOSS and self hostable.
@johannab I inherited a CiviCRM installation a few years ago, and I get the sense that if the guy who set it up hadn't been so enthusiastic about installing every shiny module that caught his attention to see if it was something he wanted and then never uninstalling anything but also not documenting which modules were necessary, I would like it a lot more. Even with the garbage installation, though,it's working pretty well for the small arts nonprofit whose data it holds, and once I am done with the Salesforce death march I'm currently on at my paying job, I'm looking forward to seeing if I can clean this thing up, or install new and copy everything important over.
@johannab We use Odoo and are pretty happy with it. As a CRM, it's not hugely sophisticated, but it's a solid suite of open source tools, and the hosted SaaS is pretty decent for the price.
