we're still deep in the code mines working on both of these things :)
i think the relay actor thing is something that probably not that many people will end up using, but it does give people in small clusters of allowlist instances the ability to much more easily disseminate posts across instances, which I think is important
re: search, it's critical to us that admins don't have to set up an elasticsearch or something comically heavy like that, which is why we're trying full-text search on a database level first, to see if that gives us what we need
@rakoo it works well for some languages but unfortunately not for chinese, japanese, and korean: it requires some additional work for those
as usual we're developing these features with an eye towards our long-time goal of making deploying and managing a fedi instance as pain-free and resource-light as reasonably possible
after the next release I think we might be able to look at doing quote posts and some other nice feature, not sure which one yet, we'll see what takes our fancy
i'd quite like us to do something where remote media isn't actually stored by GtS but merely proxied through the instance instead, so that we can stream remote media to users while preserving their privacy, and relieving storage requirements for instance admins; I think @kim has a few ideas for this but it will require some interesting refactoring :)
