oh but anyway the most important thing that happened today is i got to watch two dark-eyed juncos hanging around the feeder on the front porch at our clients' house. such a treat. i was afraid i might not see a single one this year!

@redoak wait do they only pass through on migration where you are?? It's wild to me how differently everyone experiences the same bird species based on location! I should be seeing my first juncos trickling in within the next few weeks, and large numbers of them will be staying here all winter. I'm really glad you got to see a couple of them!!
@idzie they're here all summer but only at higher elevations. Some of our usual spots are still inaccessible since Helene, and I've been so busy, I really haven't gotten out for a good hike all summer.
@redoak ohh I understand. Yeah it's sadly too easy to miss birds just because you can't manage to make it to the right habitat, as I well know...
