Honestly fair play to Proton for a rapid fix for a rather big incident.
@mttaggart it will definitely be an interesting couple of days while they figure out and explain how a single datacenter brings down nearly their entire platform. Is Frankfurt their US-EAST-1? I guess I always assumed they were a bit more distributed, like their VPN servers.
Also, I assumed they were primarily out of Switzerland, not Germany.
@seanm They had announced their need and intent to move out of Switzerland for operations some time ago. And if it was just a massive failover that wasn't auto, that's a lot more resilient than us-east-1
@mttaggart I don't have a problem with them moving their infrastructure but it's not as boldly obvious on their website, which still talks a lot about Switzerland.
And, true, I don't think AWS could failover to another region.
@mttaggart Happy to have my authenticator app as a local vaultwarden in times like these.
