i'm surprised anyone is surprised that typst is slop
@hipsterelectron i never bought into it given it was overhyped rustware so funny it aligned with my nonuse of it. org-mode better anyways
@zardoz this is the platonic emacs reply
@hipsterelectron the only downside is that emacs lisp interacting with the document is not as structured as i would like but i have done it. wrote a wrapper for citeproc-el and inserted numbers for references in a bib.json
@zardoz one thing i find significant from emacs is using text properties to assign meaning to the text rather than convert it entirely which enables multiple levels of introspection to coexist
@hipsterelectron i dont really understand text-properties ++ i wouldnt be surprised if the odt converter was weird about them
@zardoz rewriting the markdown-mode syntax parser in college and only later realizing oh nobody else has ever done an incremental parser for markdown let alone a correct one was where i learned text properties
@hipsterelectron if only it wasn't the only good typesetting language that exists 😐 - or rather that i'm aware of, i used to take notes with LaTeX in 11th class but LaTeX syntax is ass and dealing with overfull hboxes makes me scream
@alina taking notes with latex is confusing to me. i don't view the purpose of latex as notetaking
@alina personally my biggest frustration with latex is how difficult it is to set up the geometry for anything nonstandard and having implemented several types of word wrapping in emacs lisp i feel it's overrated how difficult it is. introspection should be a basic capability of any presentation or typesetting environment
@hipsterelectron wait, when did that happen? I thought they had an anti-ai contribution policy?
@cararemixed i don't know but everyone is saying it today. i found text completion by llm on their roadmap https://typst.app/docs/roadmap/ but i assume it would be more than that
@hipsterelectron ah. perhaps their web service will become slop and that definitely erodes trust in their open source software. It would be a shame if they kept it on the roadmap. btw, still policy for the underlying project: https://github.com/typst/typst/commit/7f6e625285329ccda6e117b3a57291959d2684f1
@cararemixed i don't like the vibe and will probably write my own rich text formatter since i also don't really enjoy latex unless @SRAZKVT beats me to it
typslopt is a better name anyway
