@hipsterelectron My first thought was it's "slop" as in "sloppy joe"... quick, rude, greasy, but then it's not like bad and shameful in itself? Like, maybe shameful if it's the only food you ever cook
@hipsterelectron We'll certainly progress to "sloppy joes" when we undo the "large corporate model" mania and restart the actual research. For the current gen slop the best parallel I've heard was "asbestos": it's like radioactive, being in proximity or inhaling any fumes is harmful, you don't want to expose yourself to radioactive content...
@hipsterelectron idk if you've heard of STALKER the game, but one metaphor I amused myself with the other day is that llm users are like "stalkers" that raid "the zone" and fish out radioactive "artifacts", which are occasionally useful
