@tante It's wild to me how oblivious Mozilla is to its own userbase? How can you be so out of touch to think adding AI features is a good idea and then be surprised by the backlash?? And now you're talking about giving the ability to turn them off like it's some novel boon for users when you could also just... not do AI?? Or if you really want to: Make it opt-in?? I'm just genuinely confused.

@tante There is no alternative to Mozilla. We need to oust that A.I. freak from the board. Who can do it? How to get the people to demand leadership change at Mozilla? We all built this and filed and fixed bugs. Its enough!

But I cannot imagine what makes it useful for a browser. Just stick to the job, mate! Don't over-AI everything...

I'm a little confused by this because... they sort of don't give their users choice and agency... They keep forcing it over and over, overriding the user's choice and ignoring all user opinions about these things. That's... pretty much as opposite of "users choice and agency" as it gets!

@tante Oh, he 100% knows how disingenuous the “nobody turns it off” argument is, because the majority of users will never dig through the settings of anything, let alone read down to the 11th (!) menu entry to find AI controls.

@tante Just imagine that LLM features were a plugin that somebody wrote for Firefox. And it needed to be updated all the time to work around restrictions and changes that browsers and websites made to break the plugin. That‘s when you know it’s a feature that people really want.

Like Adblock Plus or youtube downloaders.
