My friends are dead fucking tired of me talking about watching Graham Norton supercuts and sometimes whole episodes. But one of the things I like most about them is the performers who come to pitch, and do their pitch, and then he gets them talking about the work.
So I'm binge-ing Sense8 right now.
It's good. Maybe not stellar, but I just love the representation that's in it, much of which is not there for a plot point, just there to think about people who are different from you.
And as I watch it, the GN shows help me remember:
These people work *hard*. Many of them have been working hard for *decades*. And the people around them who are contributing to the work but aren't on the screen, they, too, work *hard*, many of them for *decades*.
And I think to myself that art is hard and possible and good.
@GeePawHill He is an *excellent* interviewer. You think he's just being bubbly and camp and funny, but suddenly the guests are talking about deep emotions or trauma, or some aspect of their experience they'd never shared before.
The fact that the green room bartender has a very generous pour surely helps too.
@dotcolm Multiple factors? A little bit of a buzz. 3 or 4 at a time instead of 1. Letting the pitch happen, but then moving beyond it. Knowing when to sit on your hands and let the story unfold.
