Anyway, can I just say how annoying it is how every Mac-focused tech site shifted focus away from the Mac and onto “AI” and everything else that big media already covers?
I dunno. I feel like there should be a site where people write about the Mac, indie developers, and apps they make. But everyone’s just regurgitating Apple’s quarterly financials and Anthropic release notes. I don’t care! I care about what people are making.
@louie unfortunately it feels like that’s not sustainable or even possible any more. At least not as a sustainable business that would keep somebody employed full-time.
I don’t like what MacStories have done (the AI & X whiplash) but I really don’t envy the position they’re in. It’s a tough beat.
@rowan_johnson I don’t know how you could argue that. There are so many new apps to write about. So many new developers. I’m making new app icons constantly. There’s stuff to write about, and people who want to listen. That’s almost their entire base. So many people don’t give a fuck about AI. But the people who do... there are people who have and will spend WAY more effort on talking about it than MacStories can. It’s not wise for them to dive into that further.
