I was *sure* I had seen Vendôme in a French film from the late fifties or early sixties, and somewhat recently I went through a bunch of them to see if I could jog my memory. Now I realize, after reading Doug Hayes’s fantastic case study of Rempart, that I was probably thinking of Louis Malle’s Ascenseur pour l’échafaud.
