I've noticed recently that people have started saying 'AI and automation', when what they mean is 'the same automation we've been doing for decades is still continuing to deliver increasing benefits. Also, AI is a buzzword that I have to include for marketing reasons'. And a lot of people are hearing 'AI (whatever that means today) is doing amazing things!111eleventyone'.

@david_chisnall it's a pretty common thing that boring stuff gets packaged up according to the buzzword of the day to get funding/investment. I remember reading for example that a lot of people were using the "blockchain" buzz a few years ago to just mean "upgrading legacy financial systems". Sometimes they'd tape on a bit of fancy cryptographic stuff to the side so they could claim they were really doing "blockchain" if anyone asked
@david_chisnall ah good, even the suits are beginning to tire of their own bullshit
frankly i think the suits should be euthanised, but that's an entirely separate conversation
