What is the Mediterranean equivalent of Bern, Switzerland? #moveabroad
France
- Nice (500k will not cut it 😥 )
- Aix-en-Provence
Italy
- Bologna
Albania
- Tirana
Greec
- Thessaloniki (but not a small city)
@Gina Jajce, Bosnia.
@Gina with this climate it's Bern ;-)
Do you mean in size, economy, cost of living or anything else?
My gut feeling says Girona in Spain. But that is mostly because I know it from riding bikes :)
@wsslmn I tried Girona, I liked the coast a lot more than the city. Maybe I should have checked out Monjuic.
Edit: I meant in terms of size, how clean and walkable and green it was, and just overall vibe.
@Gina Asturias and Galicia might be nice regions to checkout, within Spain. Of course, I only know what I know... perhaps there are many more good options!
I lived on the border with Switzerland for a few years and was in love with the mountains... sometimes the grass is always greener :)
@matttutt I secretly already asked Claude once, and it *really* wants me to go to Bilbao or Trieste.
@Gina Bilbao might be cool... depends on your political leanings (not so relevant maybe!) but I feel up there in that region, you will find more "aligned" people... or that they have a stronger culture perhaps - Galicia has this to a certain extent too, I'm sure other areas as well... but I think historically that area (the north, towards Catalonia) has been more active perhaps.
@matttutt More rain than Amsterdam though 💀
In what way? If you could provide, say, 3 adjectives that best describe Bern in your opinion, someone may be able to provide a better answer.
By that I mean:
- a small city
- green
- walkable
- tech community
- with a university
- overall educated populace
- close to an international airport
- by a river, lake or sea
..but with better weather and where I could buy a house with a garden for under 500k. Hence why it can't be Switzerland.
@Gina @Bro666 Come to Toulouse!
Built around the Garonne river, 2h from the mountains, 2h from the Mediterranean sea, 2h from the Atlantic ocean, tons of students, a house with garden in the suburbs for less than 500k€, an airport (where Airbus is based), and you get to see the whale of the airs on a daily basis, the Airbus Beluga XL 🤩
If it’s too big there is Montauban just North which is smaller and cheaper, ans only 30 minutes from Toulouse 😌
A lot of that was sounding some what like Málaga or Valencia... Until I read your last paragraph.
@Bro666 the thing with Malaga is that it feels to far away and it's already super expensive. Valencia is too humid for me.
