leaptel looks good to me - well priced, excellent network quality to some of the services i care about - neptune not bad either
@decryption wait, CGNAT is "free to opt out" with Aussie Broadband? If I've never had that conversation with them, does that mean that's applied to my connection with them from day one?
That seemed to be the biggest concern with bargain basement ISPs when I was looking at this way back when, but if I haven't noticed a difference in a couple of years, maybe it's time I went hunting again with my standards adjusted lower.
@timixretroplays yep, it’s on by default and you contact them to have it removed - but you don’t get a static IP if that’s important to you
@decryption @timixretroplays But also your IP is de facto static anyways, in 7+ years of being with ABB my dyanmic IP only changed once, when they renumbered.
Static IP just guarantees what they already basically do for free, I pocket the five bucks and keep a 300 second TTL on my DNS just in case, but it basically never comes up.
@fwaggle @timixretroplays yep, I don't really need a static IP either, dynamic DNS is good enough for me
@decryption I’m with Launtel. I got off CGNAT by ordering a static IP address, which was a $100 bond (when I don’t want it anymore, I get my $100 back).
@decryption I'm on Leaptel and can recommend them.
@decryption Handy summary! I think Launtel's static IPv4 you can also get on a perpetual lease for a one-time $100 refundable on release assuming you want to keep the same address longer term.
@decryption Im with leaptel, they've been great so far. The "new development offer" was very convenient when we moved.
@decryption latency = higher is worse correct?
@decryption
I've been with leaptel for almost 2 years and zero complaints. Considering switching to fubar just to support local, but leaptel is great.
@decryption
oh IPv6 is rock solid too, which is great. iinet used to be shit for that.
if you Usenet with frugalnews they have an amazing route to frugalnews' Aussie servers too
@ejstacey ooh good to know, I use frugal too
