SRL was supposed to be about linking our rail lines together, making more cross-suburban trips quicker to compete with driving. Quick and easy interchange between lines is crucial to its success, not an "unnecessary addition"

this is what happens when you have no Integrated Transport Plan, you cook up a transport project in secret without even telling the Transport Department, then pivot to calling it a "housing project" because your focus groups like it better. A box-ticking exercise rather than improving people's lives
@BenLeverAU it's a shame because in principle I think it's an OK project. What's the bet the next Lib govt (if we get one) throws it in the bin.
@bencourtice I think it might be too far advanced for an outright cancellation (or will be by November - tunnel boring machines launching soon) but more shenanigans like this, or maybe some kind of slowdown, definitely on the cards

@decryption @BenLeverAU yeah I wouldn't be surprised if they build one or two links, do it badly, say it's not woking, and can it. I have no evidemce, I'm just ultra cynical given Melbourne's track record on new rail in the last 60 years (admittedly the last 5 or so have seen a positive trend)
@bencourtice @BenLeverAU even the melton electrification is taking too long (mid-2030's at best) and i bet when that happens it'll be like "here's the same timetable as before, but electric! new services? what are those?"
