Even by Star Trek standards, the latest Strange New Worlds has an impressively poor concept of scale: we are trying an experimental long-range transport to another ship 30,000 km away. The nearest ship is two days away. Making the top speed of a Federation starship around 625km/hour, or a bit slower than the speed of a commercial jet.

it way just a context to get the muppets on. however, a story like that would have better suited lower decks.

And they really, really don't. It pops the bubble for me, Star Trek is one of the worst for it.

Original Star Trek was notorious for the ‘The Enterprise is the only star ship in range of this thing, even though the thing is near the heart of the Federation’ trope. And the ‘we are exploring months of travel beyond the border of the Federation but we popped home for lunch’ trope.
@david_chisnall @Perrin42 Star Trek 6 (the unmentionable one), they fly to the centre of the Galaxy and back like everyone does it, and then it's never mentioned again in universe. The inconsistency makes the burden of disbelief harder.
