Software developers —
We have resumes showing how we can navigate between domains, frameworks and languages — we have written recommendations praising our technical and interpersonal skills — some of us even have portfolios and public facing work examples and volunteer time on open source projects.
Why are we the only group of workers that needs to take a whiteboard exam or do intensive homework in order to prove our skills during interview processes?
Why are we still being asked to do leetcode exercises or even the fizzbuzz test?
Why do our peers assume that seniority is the same as hyperspecific stack knowledge?
How come I can get hired as a contractor without any of the issues above, turn in amazingly good work for super thankful clients and then end up in absolutely mental full time application processes for jobs with a 6 month probation period a couple of months later?
@alda I've been going on the theory that it's because the business world hasn't yet evolved into an understanding of how I.T. works. (This includes nonprofits, in my observation -- I could do a smol story/rant.)
