A few jobs ago, most of the unix ops team left over a three month period. Because of reasons (£££) I was persuaded to stay, and walked into a meeting of all the PMs to say 'There's not enough people to do on-call. The collected unreliability stats are in the wiki, so you know where to concentrate yr efforts'
There was uproar.
They decided to pay contractors instead.
english tech firms refuse reliable code b/c they won't be told what to do by those scruffy unix oiks.
