LuddPhone news: I should have a joystick to experiment with on September 9th (or thereabout), though I should be able to get started earlier with a (Papyrix-powered) Hello World.
Apparently it won't be long now until I have a screen & an Arduino.

Further LuddPhone news: I wrote a Python script (its stdlib's handy!) which tells me that across all latinate languages (beyond just English) the letters from most frequently used to least are:
EAINROTS LDUCMPHG KBVFYZWJ QX
I've grouped these letters into groups of 8 for a reason.
This'll inform layouts for a novel keyboard...
I'll take letter-pairs into account next time...
