That team page is looking a bit lacklustre now. Who needs friends and colleagues when you can get a handful of more clicks from a bunch of mouth breathers? https://www.macstories.net/about/
@andyn Wow, so just Federico and John now?! That’s not a team, that’s a pair.
@andycarolan @andyn How many folks were dismissed?
@fahrni @andycarolan none were dismissed, but everyone else just left as far as I know.
@tekphloyd Interesting. I know a few of those people have left, but unsure about Matt for example... it might just be that MacStories is negotiating with them before updating the page, or just licking their wounds for now. I mean, who knows... it was and is a total cluster. @fahrni @andyn
@andycarolan @tekphloyd @fahrni at least one of the people that have gone is also paying for twitter accounts so surprised he’s seemingly gone also.
@andyn It's so strange. @tekphloyd @fahrni
@andycarolan @tekphloyd @fahrni based on absolutely nothing my guess is that revenue was drying up from the ad market and going all in on posting 99% articles about AI alienated half the market. X is, in general far more pro AI than Mastadon so they opted to embrace that market, alienate the other half and trim the team at the same time to save costs. Complete head cannon on my part haha.
@andyn @andycarolan @tekphloyd I'm not a subscriber to MacStories but I'd listen to their podcast from time to time. I certainly wish them no ill will.
This is a company trying everything they can to stay afloat. I've been there with my own failed company. It's not fun.
@fahrni I’ve no idea, only that there are a few contributors who have left over the past week. Unsure how they left though.
