Bill Greiman's SdFat library has become a core component of the broader field of Arduino libraries, providing a way to read/write files on a FAT-formatted SD card. It is core to Papyrix so it has somewhere to store the books you want to read, & I plan to use it to store your addressbooks & texting-history amongst other things.
This is a non-trivial task so today I'm looking at the entrypoint & splitting my study into 3 additional pieces.

The main entrypoint is an instantiation of a generic class wrapping a format type-parameter & subclassing a volume type-parameter. There's instantiations of this for FAT32, & (I think?) dynamically-chosen with macros choosing one of them to expose as being primary.
This subclass adds overloaded methods to instantiate the connection to the underlying hardware via the Factory pattern, output errors, or run the formatter.
So next I'll study: Volume, formatter, & then the SD card.

What else do I see at the top-level?
Alongside that class is a PrintFile subclass which adds accessors for a datetime callback, deferring to another subsystem.
There's some buffered serialization utils. Utils to check memory usage. An alternate serial-console targetting AVR microcontrollers, for some reason. A ringbuffer. And Datamodelling for configuring how it accesses the SD card.
