I hate generative “AI” images and text with a passion but I’d urge everyone not to be an asshole or cop about it.
It’s ok to tell people that you unfollowed or muted them because of it (I do this all the time); but it’s not ok to harass and dogpile.
I’ve seen multiple instances now of people being accused of using generative imagery when they didn’t and pilers-on started to harass them about proving it.
@thomasfuchs Out of curiosity, how many people you tell "I am unfollowing you because of generative 'AI' images" claim it is a false positive? If some, how many of those do you believe?
@bremner I don’t know what they tell me because I’m muting them.
My point isn’t about believing it or not, it’s about not sending rabid packs of dicks to dogpile on people.
I’m also muting or blocking people just because I don’t like them or because it’s Tuesday. No one owes me an explanation or proof, and neither do I owe it to them.
@thomasfuchs Understood. FWIW I was not trying to "gotcha", although I can see how it might look that way.
@bremner I'm sure I don't have a 100% detection rate.
Sometimes it's, obviously, obvious. But I'm sure I'm missing some and I probably had false positives.
@thomasfuchs I am an author. My text sometimes resembles “AI” because AI is trained on text similar to how I was taught to write, and AI companies hire people with similar education to annotate training data.
IDGAF who wants to accuse me of using AI. Nowhere in Canadian Law is there an obligation to deal with everyone who is wrong on the Internet. I simply block, forget, and move on. They don’t actually know me, so it isn’t actually personal.
