Cliff Stoll gave an incredible DefCon talk 40 years after finding the $0.75 accounting error that started cyber defense, using 1987 NSA transparencies, and sharing how he traded Saturn photos to an operator for call data. A true legend.

@joebeone Cliff is a great guy. The subtitle of Cheswick's and my "Firewalls" book, "Repelling the Wily Hacker", was a direct homage, with his permission, to his CACM paper "Stalking the Wily Hacker". (And if you haven't read his book "Cuckoo's Egg", you should—it's held up well, though the concept of dial-up modems may be foreign to some…)
@SteveBellovin @joebeone @paul_ipv6 looks like he’s wearing a pocket protector in that talk. Now, that’s class! I see he hasn’t slowed down at all … I recorded him in 1993.
@SteveBellovin @joebeone @paul_ipv6 here's the talk. https://town.hall.org/radio/University/Stoll/ This is how we did it when we couldn't livestream. Caution ... .au files. You may need to install a device driver. ;)
