To think "AI" is going to "destroy us all" you have to make a whole lotta assumptions about it that are simply not supported by evidence.
But you also have to have forgotten that until ~20 years ago, everything worked fine and the IoT *didn't exist*.
"AI" doomers think that 1) "AI" will take over everything through "online", and 2) the entire world relies on "online" to function.
#1 isn't real bc "AI" doesn't have a concept of what "everything" is bc it doesn't have concepts bc it's a fucking piece of garbage software. #2 isn't true because *it isn't fucking true*.
"AI" psychosis plus imperial provincialism is stripping people of their ability to form even the most basic of coherent mental models of how the world actually is.
Normally I engage in debate with people, but I'm really getting to the point where "AI" people get blocked first.

I can certainly relate to your last comment there. A couple of very bright acquaintances, who I happen to know are actually excellent programmers, have recently become AI lovies, and yes, it's exactly like talking to a recently converted religious nut-job. Apparently I'm missing out, and I'll be left behind.
