Failure to observe this principle causes undefined behavior: the build may fail, but worse, the build may depend on some prior operations, or upon transitive declared dependencies the target happens to have. Bazel checks for missing dependencies and report errors, but it’s not possible for this checking to be complete in all cases.

thank you google for paying twitter to kill our tool so you could both not support dependency inference and also somehow still be terribly awfully broken

Important: D should not be too much of an overapproximation of A because redundant declared dependencies can make builds slower and binaries larger.

BUILD file writers must explicitly declare all of the actual direct dependencies for every rule to the build system, and no more.

we have to make people embarrassed to say shit like this. literally you write graph algorithms specifically so your users don't have to do this. why wouldn't you want to be known as the cool hacker writing graph algorithms to save your users from bullshit

because fetching and unpacking a distribution to find its dependency list takes time, and doing those fetches costs you $depth-of-tree * $time-to-FTP

if you've every run `cpan -i Catalyst` you'd have seen a graph solver run without access to the tables and boy howdy does it take ages to climb its way through the layers of dependencies

@EndlessMason brett cannon the maintainer of the packaging library is purposefully not changing the archaic and unparseable METADATA format into my standardized json version because google is using parser confusion to inject dependencies
