The kittens were out in their back garden a lot of this weekend and every time I look down, they look up and maintain eye contact until I look away.
Meanwhile, the big cat that lives with them was outside yesterday, twitching its tail with its head moving up and down to follow the movements of the tip of its tail. It continues to completely ignore / fail to notice me.
@david_chisnall My bet is on "ignore".
The cats I've known generally seem to be aware of everything around them, but are very selective about what they bother devoting any attention to. :P
@datarama I don’t know, I suspect this cat of being marginally less bright and aware of its surroundings than the average pigeon.
It doesn’t seem to get on with the kittens and I heard it flat along the end of the balcony a couple of months ago as a neighbour’s cat chased it all the way home.
Most amusingly, about a week ago the kittens were hanging out with me on the balcony and it decided to walk along the edge. One of the kittens went and walked along the inside of the fence next to it, making sure that it wouldn’t come in. It had very much the vibe of someone being escorted through a restricted area. And then, once it was past, the kitten went through the fence and took up guard position facing the direction the big cat had gone.
