@David the first iPhone to come to Australia was colloquially referred to as if it were Jesus coming again, it was such a big deal. I tend to keep my phones for ~5 years, so that the cost per day of something so amazingly useful ends up being like 60c a day. And when you only upgrade every lustrum, the improvements actually feel valid and useful. Having said all that, they’re still too damn expensive. When the iPhone X was a huge success, Apple (and then every company which largely copies Apple) just rubbed their hands in glee and said, “right, $1000 is the new floor we work from”.
