Why is it, when someone says, dubiously, that a tool is "good for beginners", what they really mean is that advanced crafters shouldn't be caught dead using it.
Logically, if that is the case, then whatever-it-is probably isn't good for beginners either, because it is likely a "crutch" which would prevent them from *becoming* "advanced".
I dunno, I'm just finding this kind of thing rather annoying.

I think with knitting in particular, beginners tend to knit pretty tightly, and then gradually figure out how to regulate tension and get a consistent gauge.
Materials and tools that make it easier to deal with tight knitting would be "good for beginners", but then move to just neutral once you get the hang of things.
I've known several people to quit knitting because it was too tight / difficult, but they used materials that made the problem worse.

"Good for beginners" is also very subjective. I started my knitting journey with Prym ergonomic needles. I didn't like them at all. They are probably great for other people, though. No matter the skill level. After some trial and error I found the best tool for me are Addi metal needles. Slippery as hell and the opposite of what's usually recommended to beginners. But exactly right for me.
@spinni81 @kerravonsen I had exactly the opposite experience: I started with aluminum needles because that's what was available. Switching to bamboo was a strict upgrade, and wood even more so. Now I have arthritis in my knuckles, and even high quality metal needles are absolute hell to work with. I will always recommend wooden needles.
