Yesterday, I was out-and-about wearing my Aussie outback hat, which is a bit cowboyish. Saw a stranger heading towards me who was wearing a similar hat.
He spoke to me.
He said "This town ain't big enough for the two of us!"
It made me laugh. He laughed. A day later, I'm still laughing.
I love random short interactions like this with people.
If you see a stranger wearing a pretty scarf, cool shoes, a funny tee-shirt, a baseball cap with a team you like -- say something. Most people really enjoy a one-line complement -- or, if you can think of it, something funny.
It really made my day.
@AskPippa I've got a Lord of the Rings ranger costume that I like to hike in. Mostly I get random compliments or comments about the local Renaissance festival, but one time some dude yelled "THE BEACONS ARE LIT! GONDOR CALLS FOR AID!" and I looked at him and then started dashing madly down the trail. 😂
My favorite interaction so far
@AskPippa I was once walking down the street eating a pear, and a stranger nodded at me and said "Nice pear love!" which made both of us laugh too
@AskPippa a couple years ago I went to the grocery store to pick up a few bottles of wine. While I was there I noticed my favorite lollies on special so I grabbed a couple packs. Waiting in the queue to check out, the guy behind me saw the contents of my basket and said "well there's dinner sorted!"
I still laugh about it almost daily.
