100%. my home field is science & technology studies. we are generally never called upon for our insights or expertise in instaces where, say, a critique would lead to a company being told not to do something they want to do and that is profitable. they instead go an ethics-washing route
and then you get wild statements like that doofus Tristan Harris saying authoritatively that "no one opposed the bicycle when it was invented"
