20 years ago, normal people avoided technology and techies would jump on the newest gadgets as soon as they could.
Now, normal people buy smart toasters & coffee mugs while every techie I know is on the verge of retreating to the forest

My whole problem is: I *can* get excited about new tech! Its just that I struggle to find others who have heard of the tech I like. Let alone share my interest.
I clearly have a values clash with those funding & promoting technology...
@alcinnz Yeah is not a tech pawblem imo, it's a capitalism pawblem!! If I see a smart device in a store I think "Oh this is prolly gonna spy on me and/or show me ads, while only being usable through some janky app :< " then I don't buy it; yet I've been tempted to make smart devices myself because the appeal of controlling things through your computer is still there !!!
@alcinnz I get so hype for things like linux though !!! Is so nice to have software actually designed by kind people, for free, to work in the interests of those using it!!!

Discrete Global Grid Systems provide a super lightweight means of geospatial analysis! Once data's reencoded.
Conflict-free Replicated Data Types have more name recognition as a technique for distributed collaborative editing!
I was pleased to see that there was a performance breakthrough on routing algorithms last year.
Gaussian Splatting looks promising as a way digitize 3D scenes.
Or there's Radiance Cascades...
