@rysiek If someone can figure out how to make a clockwork computer that can connect to the Internet, I'm there. With the direction the internet has been headed, though, that part might not be a requirement for long.

20 years ago, normal people avoided technology and techies would jump on the newest gadgets as soon as they could.

Now, normal people buy smart toasters & coffee mugs while every techie I know is on the verge of retreating to the forest

@rysiek : well, I’m meeting more and more people who avoid tech as much as they can.

The only people that are into tech are those afraid of not being "cool" : politicians, journalists, teachers, administrators and managers. And, of course, those who sell this shit (car salesman, etc).

I would say that the majority don’t want tech but most people who don’t want tech think they are alone and specials.

@rysiek I think the change happened when the iNtErNeT oF tHiNgS was first hyped up and caused a flood of "just throw an rpi into a custom case" products with no security concept whatsoever.

That's also when it became routine for completely undamaged hardware to turn into a brick because some random cloud server expired.

But even before that, you already had early un-adopters like me who boycotted cellphones because of the constant location leakage.

@rysiek I still use an old ass samsung galaxy A03 with a busted screen that I can barely see anything on it but it works, holds a charge like you wouldn't believe, and I have zero intention of replacing it anytime soon.

I refuse to get a new phone. no way.
