@randahl Was activated on my wife’s phone but she already had blocked in the iOS settings so facebook has no access to photos. Instagram is a different monster. They have made it so shitty to post anything without access to photos. The iOS limited photo selection would work great but they don’t show that.

@randahl It must be a secondary switch if you've given the app full access to your photos. Which I never have.

Edit: Actually that setting isn't showing I just have one for showing camera roll suggestions, though sounds similar but no explicit upload stated

@randahl the exact one that you highlighted there was off. There was another one above that, which was on. I have now switched It off. It took a lot of clicking the 'more' button just to find the settings menu however. I am interested to see how much user engagement with Facebook has dropped since they started sucking up to Trump.

This is enshittification honed to a fine art. They know exactly how large each incremental step needs to be in order to not outweigh the inertia that keeps people using it. It's quite impressive really.
