It is ridiculous to claim that Hezbollah was founded by the three-year-old Islamic Republic of Iran. Hezbollah emerged from cells of the (also Shiite) Amal movement and from the determination of a significant segment of the Lebanese national liberation movement to fight by all means (including armed struggle) against the Zionist occupation of Lebanon. This trend predated the Islamic Republic of Iran, which, moreover, had existed for only three years, was facing constant attacks by American imperialists and their agents within Iran, and—most importantly—was facing an external military offensive (1980) by the Iraqi regime of Saddam Hussein, which was acting as a proxy for the Americans.
