There was a kerfuffle outside my office window and when I looked there were no less than four nuthatches in the old apple tree shouting at each other. I guess sorting out the pecking order and/or pairing up. This one claimed the hollow.

#birds

A photo of an Eurasian nuthatch perched on the rim of a hollow in an apple tree where a branch was long ago removed. They are slightly hunkered down and are watching another nuthatch out of frame. They have a slate-grey head and back and are peachy-buff underneath. A bold black eye stripe like a mask lines up with their long, sharp beak.
Green moss grows on the trunk of the tree. A grey wall behind in the background.
