📊 Open Science in Action: the Université de Lorraine Shifts to #OpenAlex for Bibliometric Reports!
The Bibliometrics team at the Université de Lorraine has taken a major step in its open science commitment by using OpenAlex for the first time in the annual bibliometric report for the A2F (Agronomy, Agri-Food, Forestry) research hub.
🔹 Why the Change?
In line with the @BarcelonaDORI signed by the university, we replaced the Web of Science (a proprietary tool) with OpenAlex, an open database offering broader coverage of publications and diverse indicators.
🔹 Challenges Overcome
- Complete rewrite of the R code for data analysis.
- Quality control of affiliations in OpenAlex (an ongoing effort to correct misattributions).
Result: A far more comprehensive representation of A2F’s publications!
🔹 A Strategic Tool: The A²F Atlas with Eric Gelhaye
These data feed into the A²F Atlas, an internal tool mapping research collaborations, themes, and funding. Using VOSviewer, teams can dynamically visualize co-author networks, helping refine scientific strategies.
💡 Why It Matters
Transparency: Accessible, reproducible data.
Collaboration: Better visibility of interactions between research units.
Strategy: A foundation for self-assessment and scientific planning.
