It's crazy how much these superbowl commercials are just beautifully rendered vingettes tied to core human emotions and needs like community or family or confidence or agency and they just stick a logo in there, hoping our little pattern-making brains will associate the brand with our core needs and the ads cost like a million dollars so I guess it fucking works.

@shauna I still remember when Nationwide did this, but about the actuarials for kids dying.

Still the absolutely strangest thing I've ever seen someone do to / with a Superbowl ad.

@shauna

this is pretty much the marketing singularity, innit?

I am sometimes having the damndest time finding product information on a company's own damn web page nowadays. everyone's just spewing vibes and handwaving.

I just stopped bothering even registering broadcast advertisement. doubleclick on the earbuds, mute-and-skip on the videos.

@shauna I was done forever with the NFL over what they did to Colin Kaepernick. And look at this man:

The independent autopsy, conducted later, was paid for by civil rights activist Colin Kaepernick, a former NFL quarterback.

I wish I had even a fraction of Colin's bravery. So yeah, no NFL for me personally, ever again. I can't do it.
