The greatest achievement of the CIA is rarely talked about. It's not some coup in South America. No, it's turning an entire nation into political apathy and political illiteracy, allowing an inept party (but lapdog of the US) to remain in power for decades, despite their non-stop failures and them stirring a once powerful country into irrelevance and poverty.
And Japanese people are asking for more.

The CIA has killed the left and militantism in Japan from fear of the country turning communist or becoming a second Korea during the Cold War...

The most depressing thing is seeing how politically active Japanese universities were in the 1960s, and nowadays, my students don't even know the difference between the Right and the Left.

@David No. Not really. So like much in Japan it is just a paper democracy. Nobody votes. Nobody cares. And the news media touches politicians with velvet gloves
