Oh FFS, adds some context to the recent power outage where traffic lights went out and the waymos didn't handle it. Assuming comms was still available, huge spike in requests for guidance back to the "TeleAssistants" ?
@thomasfuchs AI is really OI - outsourced intelligence.
@thomasfuchs I just want to comment, having only read the headline - I get annoyed when I have a high ping in a game. Just want to throw out there the potential for lag controlling a vehicle which can run people over. Also, how this is somehow legal, when (as I understand it) US cars *must* have wing mirrors, rather than cameras with screens which has become popular for EVs.
I should read it now.
edit - in which I discover Tesla's "self-driving" nonsense also relies on "remote operators".
@thomasfuchs Oh are people still buying this full autonomy nonsense? Ugh.
@thomasfuchs Yep, this is pretty SOP for autonomous systems in uncontrolled environments (or controlled environments, for that matter... All of the rail switching in Pennsylvania's main lines is controlled and monitored from two redundant switch houses, if memory serves)
@mark obviously, because “AI” is a lie that does not exist.
