MIND YOU: i don't consider cursive obligatory. i see it as different handwriting application.

think of it this way:

- pencil, pen, paper are the hardware
- language is the operating system
- writing in print/cuneive or cursive are applications.

@blogdiva I agree 100%. I want to make sure whatever I work into the course is meaningful for students. I struggled to do that last year, which is why I'm asking the question.

We used whiteboards last year to problem solve and sketch ideas - I think I'm going to ask them to do that work in a notebook this year so they can reflect on what needs to happen for success and keep track of their progress in a tangible way.
