this could be a dumb question, but i've never colocated a server before - but if I just got 1RU, shoved a 1RU server in there, it just connects to an ethernet port and I'm on the internet yeah? I don't need a router? assuming i'm paying soneone like ransomIT, servers australia etc

@decryption "it depends" on what you're buying for upstream connectivity. In theory you could buy 1RU in a datacentre from one company, transit connectivity from a second, and internet access from a third company. Most datacentres offer internet connectivity with an assigned static IP address as a package though.

@jpm ah yeah, the latter thing as a package is what i'd be after (if I do the math and this works out cheaper than a bunch of VPSes/dedi server over a certain time frame)

@decryption Yeah. You get assigned an IP and that's the external IP.

@lakeswimmer cool - I assume the internal IP is for OOB/LOM stuff? or that shouldn't even be on the internal IP network?
