In the past few years, I have worked on multiple coming-of-age films set in the late 90s. I thought it was a wave of nostalgia, but today a director told me: it is not nostalgia; that is the last time in history when you can set a human plot about teenagers without half of it dealing with cellphones or social media.
Seeing it that way, it is rather sad.
