One element on the (largely dysfunctional) business model that universities have been forced into over the last couple of decades has been a reliance on Masters programmes as 'cash cows' - high(ish) fees & often lower costs than delivering undergraduate degrees.
So the news that sectoral admissions for post-graduate taught programmes were down by 10% last year suggests another aspect of the financial crisis that is engulfing many universities.
