Please note that it is possible to set up BitLocker with a local account, key and pin that is NOT shared with Microsoft. That's a setup choice users make at setup time. Sharing the key with Microsoft enables recovery in case of a lost key, but if you are willing to forgo that it's possible to keep access to your laptop private.

It's also something you can change later after setup if you change your mind.
