So here's a problem I have with books about older female protagonists. Somehow, in these books, thirty five is when you start getting grey hair and changing metabolism? I must have missed that memo, because I didn't start showing grey until mid forties. I'm 53 now and still not entirely grey. It feels a little insulting. One book even proposed a woman in perimenopause in her 30s. Which, okay, sure it happens, but I think that's a bit of an outlier...

I dunno. Maybe I'm just prickly at 53. Does anyone else have opinions on this?

@Lionesslady It depends on your genetics: when I was 30 I was complimented on the 'frosting job' on my hair (which had begun naturally before I graduated from college). But I did not hit perimenopause until nearly 50

@ElyseMGrasso @Lionesslady

I'm 73 and I have a bit of grey hair at my temples, the rest is still brownish-red. It's the same amount of grey my mother had when she died at 94. (Okay, we're outliers). But as for perimenopause, early 50s.

Some young writers are not doing their research.

@joyce @ElyseMGrasso @Lionesslady My hair and beard are almost entirely gray.

Genetics are weird. My grandmother on my Dad’s side had dark hair until her death at 93.
