If your MC or SC found out they only had twenty-four hours left to live, what would they do?
(Current WIP): Jum and Tabitha would just shrug and do what they always do: beg, borrow, or steal access to a brain uploading pod, let it mulch their skull, and hope for a better run in the next instar.
(This is how chapter one of the WIP plays out—albeit with more gunfire, and in an hour, not a day.)
If there's no uploading pod, *that's* when things get interesting.
@cstross current WIP has actual brain uploads, and other WIP has a cult around it, but it doesn't work, is that right?
@dtl Current WIP has *bad, lossy brain scans* and no simulations: you can take a blurry photocopy of someone's personality and memories and steamroller it into a sufficiently plastic (under-8) brain, but there's no AI/upload afterlife and no singularity. Just a lot of singularity-based religions who yammer on about building upload heaven (if they can ever get the tech to work).
