Most ppl know me for work in science & policy, but in college, my other major was classical #history & literature.

I view the present moment through this lens, understanding that the world map has always been dynamic. Borders shift, empires rise and fall, societies transform.

Only by studying the humanities - the disciplines so many ppl in power now regularly dismiss - can we hope to learn from the past & chart a more hopeful future.

We don’t need to choose between analytical rigor and historical perspective. They should be integrated.

In this age of rapid technological change and geopolitical uncertainty, understanding the human story across time and geography will continue to be essential. /2

@Sheril It's a shame that the number of people that hear that and think it's too much work, outnumbers those that think it's worth the effort.

Isn't there an app for critical thinking?

@Sheril
The flagrant disregard for the law of the right tells me that we were starting to win.

Fascism is winning when it’s done through the law, like red lining. Racism has been obfuscating more and more and now they had to reject the law itself.

We are at a tipping point. Don’t accept it and actively reject it.

@Sheril But sometimes people try to shift borders ... and it doesn't work. Fatalism is not the answer.

@Sheril English Lit and anthropology were the counter to geoscience and engineering. Proved useful as I migrated to management, public administration and legislation development.

@Sheril I read literature to understand history. It makes me understand and remember everything so much better!
