@chertridge @pluralistic may be worth checking with the library whether they'll take it. I tried to donate some books in SF and they said they'd sell them and buy different books with the revenue unless the books were on their list to acquire already.

We first contacted the library asking them to o acquire #Enshittification then got a reply that they would. My very thoughtful wife then suggested we buy it for them. We called the library and they approved us buying it, reading it then donating.

So yes, contact your library to see if they will accept it.

@iris This is often true since libraries have certain constraints, but you can request your library buy its own copy! Almost every book I’ve suggested my public library buy (that is available—accidentally submitted a few that aren’t) has been approved.

Or, little free libraries are a great way to get books you want into your communities. This is the official map, but you can find “unlicensed” free libraries if you keep your eyes peeled too

I've done this here in UK. Sadly my local library is not currently accepting book donations, because politics, which makes me sad.
