#WritersCoffeeClub Jan 19: Talk about something (even if very small!) from your own life which made it onto the page.

Lots of little details? Aspects of real people that get mashed up together to produce characters? Anecdotes? (The bit early in Jennifer Morgue when Bob is driving on the autobahn and being aggressively overtaken repeatedly happened to a boss of mine once—turned up in Frankfurt and was handed the keys to a rental SMART ForTwo, had to go on the autobahn to get to his meeting ...)

@cstross
I'd guessed that was prompted at least partly by Kraftwerk's 'Autobahn'.

@cstross I think about that moment every time I’m on the autobahn and wonder how bad it would really be.

@tj My ex-boss had that experience in 1995 or 96. I gather autobahns mostly have a speed limit around 160km/h these days, but back then, not so much!

@cstross My partner wrote something into a screenplay, which I then got to see on the big screen.

A laminated poster on a street lamp in my street had, over months, become sodden via the two holes punched for the zip tie. It filled up like a water balloon.

In the film, a character punches a small hole in a water-filled missing person poster, to drain it. It takes a second, and shows the length of time passed since the person disappeared.

@cstross It did conjure memories of being overtaken by Audis at a relative speed of 80Kph or so, since I settled to a relatively sedate 150 :)
