Karl Turner, a former shadow attorney general who is leading a fight against #Lammy's plan to reduce the number of Jury trials, has spoken to the Daily Telegraph: “Two ministers have come up to me separately in the last few weeks saying that if they can’t abstain, they will resign."

Gosh

@Geri

A statesman will pursue good policies that are unpopular.

A populist will pursue bad policies that are popular.

WTF is wrong with the Labour leadership and their obsession with policies that are both bad and unpopular?

@david_chisnall It's almost as if The Cabinet are directed by a third hand.

We know various things:

There is little difference in terms of delay between between magistrate and judicial trial

A singular magistrate can be chosen for his opinion; whereas a jury can not

The prisons are full

After the States, we incarcerate more per head than any other country

The G'ment was keen for digital ID.
This idea seemed to come out of the blue first announced Sept 26 (albeit KS met Trump Sept 18)
