Fruits of love … a male kākāpō sitting on a tree on Codfish Island in New Zealand. The world’s heaviest parrots started breeding last week for the first time in four years, giving hope of a big boost to the small population. The native rimu trees are producing a bumper crop of berries, the kākāpō’s main food, which conservationists hope will lead to a record number of chicks for the critically endangered bird.
